Flamini, Deco Linked With Bayern

Postby mackoy on Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:50 am

Bayern Munich sporting director Uli Hoeness has suggested that the club will swoop for a high profile out-of-contract central midfielder this summer, with Arsenal's Mathieu Flamini and Barcelona's Deco top of the list.

The Münchner are strong down the flanks but feel they need to strengthen in the middle of the park to allow for a serious title challenge in next season's Champions League.

Bayern officials are said to be frustrated with Mark Van Bommel's on-field discipline problems, while in any case next season will be Brazilian midfielder Zé Roberto's last with the club.

Bosman Signing?

The Bundesliga leaders spent a club-record €25m last season to bring French winger Franck Ribéry in from Marseille, but Hoeness hinted that Bayern may not need to splash the cash this time around.

"Once again, we're ready to bring in a high quality player," he said on ZDF programme Sportstudio when quizzed about the midfield situation. "You don't always need to spend millions. Sometimes players come on free transfers."

Flamini And Deco The Favourites

German tabloid Bild are reporting that the two frontrunners are Arsenal's out of contract midfielder Mathieu Flamini, who has repeatedly been linked with a move to Juventus, and Barcelona's Deco.

The Portuguese has two more years on his deal, but can buy himself out for 10million euros - a sum Bayern will and some Serie A sides are supposedly only too happy to pay.

With Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose and Franck Ribery in the team, there is no shortage of stars, and with that comes the guarantee of Champions League football, making a move to Bavaria all the more attractive.

No To De Rossi?

This news would appear to suggest the Rekordmeister are leaning away from trying to sign Roma's Daniele De Rossi - the Italian international has been monitored closely by chiefs at the Allianz Arena but in contrast to Deco and Flamini would cost quite a lot of money.

Wow, I like Flamini, but Deco...Oh man if he could come. I would love to see Deco in a red shirt. But who would we lose? i guess Ottl would call it quits. I would hate to see him go though. We simply can't afford to keep all of our players and continue to bring in more.

I imagine, ze roberto would be weened out of the team bit by bit, if either of those came, he's getting on and next season is his last, Ottl still has plenty of time to prove himself before potentially looking elsewhere!

I would love to see Flamini at Bayern, but I don't see it happening with the likes of Juventus courting him. I think he will actually stay at Arsenal and will use both Juve and Bayern offers as leverage for his new contract....unless, Ribery convinces him (???)...

I see a better chance with Deco, we could certainly use a player like him.

If MVB does not stop his stupid antics and concentrates on performing consistently I don't see much of a future for him at Bayern...

Next season will be Ze's last season at Bayern, so he'll probably not be much of a regular if we bring someone to fill in his position. I think at 35 he would be someone great coming off the bench.

Bayern in Flamini hint
Bundesliga giants could move for Gunners ace

Bayern Munich have hinted they have put Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini top of their summer shopping list.

The Gunners are desperate to retain the French ace, but, as yet, the 24-year-old has not penned a contract extension.

With Bayern able to land Flamini for free for the start of next season, managing director Uli Hoeness is tempted by the prospect of keeping the club's cheque book away from Arsenal.

Hoeness has confirmed the Bundesliga giants are keen to bolster their midfield, but fell short in naming who the club's summer target is.

"I want to sign another star player for our midfield," said Hoeness.

"We are already in the process of recruiting a high-calibre individual.

"We don't always need to spend millions."

Correct me if I'm wrong but did not Deco turn down a move here after Porto won champions League? He opted for Barcelona so why ashould we bother taking him now several years down the line?

Van Bommel rejected moves to Bayern before he eventually joined.

Does anyone know how likely either of these two transfers are? Because while it would be fantastic to get the likes of Flamini for free....for some reason I don't see it happening.

Sportbild says Juve are gunning for Flamini.
Looks like Juve wants Flamini who grew up a fan of the club. He hasn't responded to a 60,000 a week offer from Arsenal either and they think he might be leaving. I don't think Bayern are going to get him now. Maybe Gatusso?
