Barcelona could be on the verge of giving up on trying to prise Aleksandr Hleb away from Arsenal after seeing all their efforts continusouly be frustrated by the English club.
The Belorussian has made it clear that he is keen to leave the Emirates this summer and the Blaugrana looked to be favourites to secure his services, but the prolonged chase could be called off.
Arsenal are reportedly holding out for €20m and Barça are refusing to go to that amount because they do not feel that the former Stuttgart playmaker is worth that.
Hleb has also not been seen to do enough to help persuade the Gunners to let him go to Camp Nou and the Catalan outfit may well take their search elsewhere.
Talks are scheduled to continue in London between Arsenal and Barça's sporting vice-president Marc Ingla, but if there is no deal reached this time then that will be the end of the saga.
Bayern Munich were said to have made their interest known and that may have led to Arsenal hoping to start an auction between the club only for Hleb to state he did not want to move to the Allianz Arena.
Inter were originally favourites to land him, but the arrival of José Mourinho put a stop to that with the Portuguese coach targeting other players to bolster his squad.
If the move for Hleb fails to produce a deal, then Barcelona will place their hopes in Brazil's rising star Anderson Hernanes or make a move for Portugal's Moutinho.
